About Subspace SubSpace is a "massively multi-player online game", as it says on the box of the retail version. Visually, the game is a top-down view space shooter based on Asteroids. Players have a choice from eight different unique ships with their own strengths and weaknesses. The expansive high-resolution playing field is made up of various obstacles, safezones, and power-ups, which are called "greens" because they appear as small floating green spheres. Players maneuver through space collecting power-ups [greens] that will increase their ship's fire power, armament, maneuverability and special weapons. With hundreds of people vying for the same power-ups and flags, players must be prepared to defend themselves constantly. To help in battle, players can form teams or have themselves assigned to one through the computer. In true team fashion, each player benefits when they or another teammate absorbs a power-up, which can help arm a weak beginner's ship rapidly. Points are scored for collecting power-ups and destroying opponents.
About SSCU Death Star Battle This zone is based on the scene of the first (meaning the oldest, not Episode 1) Star Wars movie. When you first spawn into the zone you will be in a green safezone. Around it will be green prizes that may be picked up. Normally these prizes would be used to upgrade your ship, but in this zone each ship is already fully equiped for its ship class. The prizes are meant only to raise your bounty 5 points so you'll be able to attach to other players. The main target, and sole purpose of this zone looms to your left and slightly up... the Death Star. Unlike the movie, the purpose of this zone is to penetrate into the Star (or attach to another player) and take all the flags that reside within. There are a total of 100 flags, each giving 100 points when the reward bell rings. If your team is good enough and work well together, you may even be able to completely kick the other team out of the star, at this time you defend the three entrances, sit back and rack up those points. There are two teams on this zone, team 0 which are the Imperials and team 1 which are the Rebels. Both teams have their strengths and weaknesses, the zone is very balanced when it comes to that matter. The Imperials do a lot of damage but don't have a whole lot of energy. The Rebels have more 'armor' but their ships are slightly 'weaker' when it comes to bullet speed and distance. For either team, you must work together to be able to take over the star. Your Win/Loss ratio isn't very important in this game, what matters most and the main thing squad recuriters SHOULD be looking for is how many points you have. Unfortunately lots of people care only for their ratio and 'jump teams' depending on which team is doing better to insure they don't die as often. This is the same for squads, not only do they look for points but also ratio. This zone may not be for some, as it will probably get boring doing the same thing over and over, as well as the lag problem that comes with the zone. But I've enjoyed the zone since I started playing it and can't seem to bring myself to play in another arena. Here's a map of the zone, well pretty much..

Once you have the game you will probably have to click the "Find New Servers" button, when it asks the host on where to get new servers use the default that it has on there or type sscentral.vie.uk.co . SSCU Death Star Battle is where I play in under the handle Bloody Kisses.
How to Spot a newbie Spotting new people to this zone is very simple. Most don't use the proper ship for their team and usually end up greenkilling, which means to kill people while trying to collect five prizes to be able to attach to people in the Death Star. Most may not even realize that there IS a Death Star if they move in the wrong direction. I've noticed that a lot of newbies, for some strange reason, can't seem to fly and shoot at the same time. Lots will fly, and when they're in range will start shooting at you and float straight into a minefield. Others charge at you without regard to the chances they face. And finally you have the ever popular 'hold down the fire button all the time' which are the people that will keep shooting at you no matter what. All you need to do is pull some evasive manuevers, wait for them to power down and go in for the kill.
Some players, not always newbies but mostly them, will do something called
'suicide bomb'. Meaning that they shoot you with a bomb at point blank
range. When you do this you end up taking loads of damage while the person
you bombed at will take nearly nothing. This always results in an easy
kill. If you accidently suicide bomb yourself chances are you wont live
much longer. |
