Greenkilling, an article by Stormleach

I would like to start by apologizing for the controversy and the opbashing it does. I am trying to make this article as objective as possible but the fact that I see greenkillers as lamers and truly adore the ops, combined with my refused applications are really making it hard for me. I would also like to apologize for the fact that I haven't interviewed everyone. I would really have loved to interview Confederate Rebel, but sadly this wasn't possible. Furthermore I would like to thank the people that made this article possible and those that allowed me to interview them, HBK, O.M, Tango and Prophecy +. Special thanks go out to Chy and Tree. I would also like to thank Bloody Kisses for giving me the chance to write and publicate this article, it's thanks to her that I was able to seriously talk with Chy actually which has been a lifelong dream of mine =). (God Loops better not be reading this!) Oh and I would like to add that Chy has a pwetty name =) (Yep, if Loops reads this I'm toast.)

Greenkilling

Greenkilling was the 'art' of killing players as they left the zone or when they were greening. People would stalk them for awhile untill they got in a good view of these players, then they would open fire, killing them before they had a chance to react. Many players complained about this. The moderators seem to agree on a fixed number of 30 to 50 people a day. When Confederate Rebel arrived, the situation suddenly exploded. Confederate Rebel was to greenkilling as Sun Tzu was to war. When he was in the safezone no one was safe. Complaints rose from 30 to 50 a day to 60 to 90 a day. Many people started to wish this ultimate greenkiller to hell and the situation was ready to explode....

The Difference in a Nutshell

Suddenly from one day to another the whole greenzone changed. The safezone was changed into a checkered area and it is now safe to collect greens. I went and asked two ops why they made such a sudden change. Chy told me, and I'll be quoting her on this: "green killing has always been a problem in the zone, and a lot of players have always constantly complained about green killers spoiling the game for them, these green killing rules were added for the benifit of the players, and due to popular demand from the players." HBK, of whom Blazzin says to be his op, acknowledged this. He said,"the reason i think greenkilling became illegal is very easy. No matter what anyone says...the truth is obvious... as everyone knows, I am currently a mod in this zone...if anyone used to be a mod in here..then they should know why...if, not...well then let me explain... greenkilling became illegal because the simple fact of us mods have enough trouble with illegal ships, explaining the rules to these new players coming in here, cheaters, and other problems such as requesting to be a mod, breaking the other rules.. such as mining the green area, illegal turrets(more than 2 people) and other league matters...so the sysops along with D realized it was hard enough on us mods to keep up with the many problems we already have in this zone....so they thought making greenkilling illegal was to ease the problems and complaints we get constantly about this greenkilling problem since we got about an average of 30 to 50 complaints of greenkillers everytime we came on..so they decided to make it illegal...it was not a easy choice to make that these sysops made....but they decided it would be good to ease up the complaints on this particular problem..so that's why they made the decision to make it illegal." Of course that's what the moderators say. Confederate Rebel stated on the forum that the reason for the sudden change was the fact that he greenkilled DeathD!, quite funny if you ask me, Phrophecy + acknowledged this. He thinks DeathD! changed the safezone on impulse because he was greenkilled by Confederate Rebel....

DeathD did not React on Impulse (?)

At least that's what the ops say. Of course it could very well be a lie. If you think of it, it actually makes a bit of sense. The safezone was changed from one day to the other. No opinions were asked from the players, no polls, no nothing. It all happened suddenly and it was a shock to most players. Thus the DeathD! greenkill indeed makes sense since greenkilling is an excellent motive to do such a thing. The ops assured me that this was not the case, though. This is what Chy had to say on the matter, "was there a need for a poll, and was it really that suddenly? what do YOU think of green killing? u know what i think, as a player, this was introduced because players constantly complained about being green killed." yes of course. Still, it's weird actually. Each time players complained they got the lid shut on their nose. "Greenkilling isn't illegal!" they would reply with continuing frustration. The ops and certainly the Smods or Sysops showed no sign of compassion on the case, then the SSCU head gets greenkilled and then bwam, the safezone is changed, while if a hour ago the player would have complained to the ops would have given the same reply, "Greenkilling isn't illegal."

Confederte Rebel, a God Between the Players (?)

Confederate stirred up the zone quite a bit. In the end he got banned, Chy wishes not to reveal why he was banned as those were DSB staff matters. HBK was a bit more open. He said that Confederate was maybe the biggest problem in the DSB, (aside to lag and others of course =) After they made greenkilling illegal he would go on, day after day. Eventually they banned him for a few minutes, .... and then for life. But then again what is greenkilling? .....

Greenkilling, What is it?

If you're a greenkiller, you may or may not be banned. It all depends on how you greenkill and what ops are in the zone. I interviewed a few ops and eachtime I asked them for their definition they gave me a totally different definition. For example, Chy says, "okies well just to clear up the air since there has been a lot of misunderstanding and "interpretations" of the rules, green killing is trying to kill another piolot in the vicinity of where the greens appear. This does not mean u can not shoot from the outside or mine the outside of the safe zone inorder to get a kill from who is leaving the safety zone, that's what i see as green killing: to fire within the checked zone, and to fire from the outside into the checkered zone." This means you can't shoot in the box and you can't shoot while you're in it either. But you can fly around it and have a big brawl if you want. It really depends on which mods are in the zone.

A Solution?

Of course the biggest question remains. Was it a wise descision to make greenkilling illegal? The fact remains that many people are still fighting in the greenzone and literally breaking the rules. Bloody Kisses was talking about a photographer, maybe he could make a most wanted list =) Anyway, when I talked to the ops they gave me the same reply. It will be impossible to stop all the greenkilling/mining etc... there will always be players who try to break the rules and cause as much havoc as possible. But these new rules are a good start for a better DSB and I feel that we are safe with these ops. If Chy and Loops, backed up by the excellent mods, keep doing what they have to do then I'm sure that all the complaints will sink into nothingness from what they have done.
